Daddy's back!! :) Funny how I don't realize just how much I miss these little boogers until I'm back in the room with them, seeing them looking around and wondering, "What's going to happen today?"
We gave them their baths for the night (Amy got peed on again, haha!), then settled them in for some hugs from Daddy. Amy was gracious enough to insist that I hold them both tonight, since it's been four days (?!) since I saw them last. Aidan was so comfortable that he squawked rather vehemently when the time came to move him back to his bed. Jacob (seen at left) was so comfortable nuzzled into my neck that I couldn't resist taking the picture. We made Nurse Greg (yes, I did say Nurse Greg :) ) move him so he wouldn't get upset with Mommy for being the bad guy. :)
We also discovered that those sleeping gown-bag-thingies aren't quite as easy to put them in as advertised! Someone must have thought it would be entertaining to make the elastic at the end of the bag just tight enough to make it comical to get the little guys into and out of - at one point, Jacob was missing an arm, Aidan a thumb and 3 fingers, and both were wearing little "turbans" as we tried to wrestle them into their clothes! Greg suggested "loosening" the elastic at the bottom with a little scissor action. As they get bigger, that might just become a necessity! For now we're chalking it up to Amy's famous 2% rule: you must be 2% smarter than the thing which you are trying to manipulate. :)
This weekend we might just get the deep freezer of which I've been dreaming! (That sentence structure was especially for you, Aunty Christine ;) ) Amy has so far filled up about half of the downstairs freezer with little urine sample cups chock full of liquid gold. (Wait - that sounded completely wrong. It's milk, people... not urine... ) Anyway, we are rapidly running out of storage space. The time has come to expand! Not that we'll be able to store whole cows and massive amounts of summer fruits and veggies as I'd hoped, but at least we will be able to stow away massive amounts of milk in preparation for some pint-sized appetites when they get home! We'll investigate today and tomorrow and keep y'all posted - I'm sure you're waiting on baited breath!
And one more thing for today's blog- as I was driving to Eugene last night, the love of my life sitting next to me, quietly holding my hand, watching the sun set in the western sky, I couldn't help but think how incredibly lucky I am. I have everything I have ever wanted in my life - a partner whom no words can do her justice, who makes me laugh, and whom I love more than life itself; two beautiful stepdaughters who drive me crazy sometimes but I wouldn't change a thing about them; two dogs that also drive me crazy sometimes, and there ARE things that I would change about them; and now two heart-wrenchingly amazing sons who take my breath away. I also have a job that is beyond amazing, and I wanted to thank everyone at my office, my practice partners, and even my patients for giving me the time, space, and support that I need to make this all happen. I can't even believe how lucky I am to be in a place where there's not even a question of where my "priorities" should lie - thank you to all of you!!!
*stepping off the gushy soap box now- even new daddies can have estrogen moments!!*

I love your soapbox, Gavin. Almost as much as I love Amy's 2% rule!!
ReplyDeleteI have been loving the blog and the photos. Please keep it coming! Your boys are adorable, and I can't wait to meet them. Sometimes I do end sentences with prepositions, but it is very hard for me to do so in writing. Who knew we'd grow up, have kids, and become excited about things like deep freezers and lightweight, maneuverable strollers?
ReplyDeleteAll I have to say to Gavin & Amy is that you both deserve what you have and may your children bring you pride, joy & laughter. One thing I never regret is being a parent. I was going to offer Amy an extra freezer/refrigerator since I have one in storage:) But it's a long drive from San Jose.
