Holy cow, holy wow, holy babies coming home, Batman!!
I was at work when my nurse came into the room to let me know that my wife was on the phone. Uhoh! She never calls me at work, always on the cell phone, so either something really good was happening, or something really bad was in the works.... I anxiously finished with the patient then rushed to my office to answer the call. Lo and behold, our chillins' ah commin' HO-WUM!! The neonatologist called that morning, but she hadn't answered the phone. She just happened to check the messages, and rather than the usual (but oh so welcome) "The boys are doing well, not much else to say, blah blah blah..." he said, "They're eating and growing, not much more reason for them to be here..." What?!?! Suffice it to say, I had a hard time staying focused through the rest of the morning, not to mention the rest of the day! Lunchtime was full of putting together bouncy seats, getting diapers out of their boxes and set up, unpacking the playard, cleaning up the house.... I think we might actually be almost kind of sort of ready for them to come home! Amy did her best to explain to the dogs that the boys are coming home - they are not to be chewed on, eaten, slobbered on (much), dragged around, chased, or bitten. (God forbid!) Let's hope they listened! We have been bringing home dirty baby laundry for them to sniff and get acccustomed to the babies' scents.
After working through an agonizingly LOOOONG afternoon of patients (which really was probably shorter than my usual afternoons), I raced home to help Amy pack up our stuff, load the car, kiss the dog-boys (because they're not the only "boys" anymore!), and off we went! Made our usual stop at DQ in Toledo for a healthy NICU-parents-type dinner. Got into Eugene in time for the boys' 8:00 feeding - they get bigger every time I see them! I can't believe how much they can change in such a short period of time. Their feedings have also greatly increased, and have been "liberalized" even more, to where they can eat what they want, so long as they maintain a set minimum volume over 24 hours. We stayed with them until about 10:00, then headed out for our last night of freedom! Party animals that we are, this consisted of a run to WalMart for milk thistle and a Diaper Champ (which they didn't have in stock), and then a tasty stop at our favorite frozen yogurt place near U of O. Geez, the college girls here dress.... provocatively? If you've had so much to drink that you don't even realize that your already-excessively-short (where's the rest of it??) gold lamme skirt is riding so far up your backside that we know what kind and color of tagless underwear you're wearing.... *sigh* are we really getting THAT old?? It got even better when we stopped at the 7-11 down the street for our "last hurrah" - a very small bottle of Pinot Grigio!! Living it up, bigtime! :P After skirting our way past the very inebriated/high young couple lounging outside the 7-11 trying to figure out how to cash a check at 11:00pm, we headed back for last night at the guest house. We partied hard for a total of about ... hmm... 20 minutes? It was a rager for sure!
Goal for tomorrow: car seat test, CPR review, Toys R Us, Vitamin World, Home Depot, and Target... whew! Oh yeah - and rooming in with our little binkies, too :)
My Friday & Saturday consisted of a whole lot less than that, and it was exhausting. We are obviously operating on entirely different levels of energy these days. Holy adrenaline rush!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're holding up okay, with everyone in the same town finally. I can't wait to hear stories of sleepless adventures in diapering, etc. and see pics of the boys at home!
