Rooming in day! Our big test has come!

Woke up super early this morning (okay, it was 7:30) to get ourselves ready to check out of the Guest House. Thank goodness for the Children's Miracle Network Family Guest House! We were so blessed to have such a comfortable, safe place to stay while our babies were getting bigger and stronger in the NICU! After packing our things into the car, we headed for Toys R Us to get the much-needed Diaper Champ, as well as some other minor (and not so minor, like the non-hospital grade breast pump) items in preparation for the boys' arrival at home. Stopped in at Vitamin World, resisted a trip to Spirit Halloween... *sigh* ... and made it back to the hospital in time for the 11:00 feeding. Next: the car seat test!

We took some videos of the boys in their car seats for the first time - they looked so cute! Not nearly as diminutive as we thought they'd be, their car seats fit them perfectly! Once they were settled, both fell asleep for the 2 hours that they had to stay in them, and passed their tests with flying colors! We were able to get out and get some lunch, and make a few more stops while they were sleeping.

We came back for the 2:00 and 5:00 feedings, then went to grab some quick dinner and run to Home Depot for the deep freezer. Good thing that Amy's car is so accommodating - between my packing prowess and the nooks and crannies in the car, we were able to cram everything in with room for babies! Let's see what happens tomorrow, though, when we have to pack in all the milk that we've got stored in the NICU freezer....

Tonight we are rooming in with the boys - it's now about 11:30pm, they've had their 11:00 feeding and are more or less quietly resting in their crib. Jacob is chatting away about something, but Aidan has finally fallen asleep. Weights and measurements were done before that feeding - Aidan is at 2416gms (5lbs, 5oz), and Jacob is 2346gms (5lbs, almost 3oz)! They were starving at that last feeding - you'd think we hadn't fed them in daaaays! Now for a bit of a nap before we have to wake up for their 2am feeds.

  1. Congratulations to you both on the arrival of your boys (and surviving the NICU!) :) We've been through the NICU routine with our eldest - thank goodness it lasted only 6 weeks! It was quite a trying time for Caroline and I. I'm so pleased to hear everything is well and the boys are healthy and thriving.
Best regards and Gavin keep in touch! :)
