So...as you can tell from the 10 day lapse since the last blog entry, we have been a little busy...to say the least. Not only have we been getting the twins settled at home, but we also decided to move. Ahhhh yes, everything happens at once, right? We were living in a rental house and purchased our permanent house knowing that it would close either right before the twins came or shortly after but we didn't have a choice. We held out closing as long as we could and just knew we had to make it work. The twins came early and then decided they wanted to come home right before we moved. They clearly wanted to be a part of the action! Luckily we still had some moving allowance left from Gavin's work so we were able to hire a moving company and they did all the work for us. Except the unpacking ;0) Of course, as with our other moves, it took WAAAAAAY longer than anticipated and the 3 moving guys finally left our house at 10:30pm tired and wondering how an anticipated 15 hour move took 24 plus hours to complete. I guess we hide things well?? Nonetheless, we are in the house and adjusting. We love it! With the rental we had an ocean view. Now we have a bay and mountain view. Reminds me of being on a lake. It's beautiful. The boys' nursery is all put together and the rest of the house is coming along nicely as well. So glad it's ours and we can finally settle here!
The boys had a doctor's appointment on October 20th that proved to be eventful. Aidan is now 6lbs 5oz and Jacob is 6lbs 3oz. They both gained 11oz in 7 days, which is over the ounce a day they want them to gain. Go piggies! But, during Aidan's exam we learned that he has an inguinal hernia that will need to be repaired in the near future. The doctor said hernias are very common in preemies and that we had nothing to be worried about...yea right! Try telling that to a mom! He explained that the procedure would be done laparoscopically but that he would have to be put under. Ahhhh! This was getting worse and worse to me by the minute. Now we are waiting for the referral to see the doctor in Portland to get the ball rolling. I am nervous about the procedure, but as Gavin said if this is the worse thing that we have to encounter with them, we are lucky. Which is true, but I'm still a mess thinking about it.
We did have a great time on Friday the 21st! We broke free from the house to head to Corvallis so Nana Lillian could pick up her car from the mechanic. Gavin LOVES pumpkin patches and there just so happened to be one in Corvallis so we decided to make this our first family outing! We packed up the boys in their best Halloween attire and headed to get some pumpkins. Luckily, it was a small farm with only a few people there so the boys weren't exposed to too many cooties. We kept them wrapped up around anyone and only took them out to pose for pictures. Daddy found some perfect pumpkins for us and we can't wait to carve them! Yes, we realize the boys won't remember any of this but we'll have great pictures to show them when they get older. We had a great time on the hay ride out to the patch and then got some great veggies and neat gourds at their store. It was a great way to start the Fall season!
On Monday the 24th, Gavin had to go back to work and my fun began! I had been trying to prepare myself for this day but I was anxious to see just how crazy it would actually be. We were lucky in the fact that Gavin had 2 weeks off and I was spoiled, to say the least, having another set of hands. Nana Lillian had also been visiting for the week so that was yet another set of hands to help. I knew, though, that all good things must come to an end and reality set in....I was in charge of 2 babies! The morning time went well. The boys slept most of it and I was prepared for their feedings so that when they woke up there would be limited crying time before they were eating. I was especially nervous about Aidan crying because the night before he had an upset tummy; he was even more upset when it hurt him to eat! Now, Aidan doesn't cry unless he is hungry or upset; he's the chill one. I knew when I went to feed him Sunday night and he was screaming, something was wrong. I called Gavin in to the living room from changing Jacob's diaper in our room. I knew he had some gas but with his crying, I was worried his hernia was bothering him. He had worked himself up so much with his crying because his tummy hurt that his hernia became swollen and had traveled down to his tiny boy parts! Ouch!!! I, of course, freaked out as Gavin went into "Dr. mode" and began calming Aidan down as he worked on Aidan's hernia with his hands. Slowly, he bagan to calm down and Gavin was able to pick him up and rock him. After some Mylicon and gripe water, Aidan was able to take his bottle and sleep the night with little fussing. On Monday, the morning feedings went well but at his first afternoon feeding, he began to spit up, which he never does and I could tell his tummy was not happy again. I was fairly certain he was suffering from acid reflux. I called his doctor and they were able to get him in. My fear was that he would be uncomfortable again and the hernia would bother him again. At the doctor's office, they noticed that the hernia was getting bigger and that now it was on both sides. Ugh. We got some medicine to help with his acid reflux and now I am paranoid to let him cry for fear he'll be in pain, or even more have the hernia get worse. Hoping that the doctors office will call soon with the date for his consultation appointment. On a good note, he did gain another 3 oz!
That leaves us with today....all is well so far. The boys were up every 3 hours to eat last night, which we are not used to. They have been eating every 4 so we are a little sleep deprived. And Gavin had to get up and be at the dentist at 7:45, a half hour's drive from home. Even with all the changes, drama and adjustments to having the boys home and our new life, I wouldn't have it any other way. Ok, yes I would....the girls would be here too :0) But for now, this is truly a perfect life for me.

Aww, poor Aidan! And poor Mommy worrying about it all! Here's hoping the referral comes thru quickly & everybody is feeling lots better about everything soon. Love the pumpkin patch photos! At the rate everything is going for you guys the girls will be here before you know it. I sense some adorable sibling photos in everyone's future!
